First time buyers: Please read the Ordering Process and Our Policies.
All: Be sure you’re familiar with our standard features as some non-standard features involve extra labor and/or more expensive parts that necessitate an increase in price. The standard features are well illustrated at that link as well.
While we will consider other requests, our King Kilts (and Lady’s Kilts) come in four styles:
Prices listed are for standard 4-yard kilts. Eight-yard and nonstandard kilts will cost more. For pricing on your project specifications, Request a Quote.
We are home-based, so we do not keep fabric in stock, though we do occasionally have remnants from past orders.
Note for those with allergies: We have a cat on the premises, but no dogs and no smoking.
If you prefer, you may purchase/use your own material for your order (contact us first so we can tell you where to ship the fabric.) This is something to consider for tartans, plaids, and special fabrics. The cost would be $55 for labor plus shipping. You will need about 4 yards of material, depending on your size. Waists under 38″ could make due with 3 1/2 yards, waists over 48″ need 5 yards, and waists over 58″ 6 yards. We will notify you of when we receive your fabric as well as when the kilt is complete. In this case, I recommend including a money order for the entire bill when you ship your fabric.
We do have pictures from past kilts available as examples. Note these are on an older version of this site. They also predate our current standard features and hence close with Velcro. To view these, follow the appropriate hyperlinks.
1) Non-plaid Kilts—$85 + shipping
Made from a durable medium-weight wrinkle-ease cotton material, these kilts are our best value and can be worn by anyone. Popular colors include black, hunter green, and khaki. Other colors, such as red, and blue, are typically available upon request. For pricing on wool and other fabrics, see the special fabrics section.
2) Discount Plaid–$59 +shipping
If you’re looking for a cheap kilt fast or not comfortable wearing a tartan because you’re not Scottish or Irish, but solid-colored is too nontraditional for your tastes, upon your request, we will purchase plaid cotton fabric per your color specifications, subject to availability. We’ll even email you a swatch to ensure it’s what you wanted. Common plaids include green, red, gray, and blue. Steward tartans (weathered and royal in particular) are often reproduced in plaids and hence are the most likely authentic-looking plaids to be available.
Before ordering, please be aware you get what you pay for. Discount Plaid kilts are typically extremely light weight, often shirting material, and not suitable for formal or winter wear. They are good mainly for one-time costume use or as kick around grubs if you wear kilts on a regular basis (which would you rather get dirty and stained, one of these, or an expensive work kilt?)
3) Special Fabrics–Price Varies.
Camouflage and Denim kilts are $115 + shipping.
For Corduroy, wool, wool blends, poly viscose, etc, the price will be equal to the wholesale price of the material plus $55 for labor and typically $9 for shipping.
For pricing on your specific project, please Request a Quote
4) Tartan Kilts–Price Varies
Our pricing on tartans equals the sum of the cost of materials, shipping, plus $55 for labor. The price for a second kilt, before nonstandard features are added, is just $55 more. A down payment equal to the wholesale value of the fabric is required for tartan orders. Tartans come in both wool and cotton, so please specify you preference. Wool is more traditional, but cotton is more affordable.
Some of the tartans available from our supplier are listed below. Images of fabric swatches are available at the Scottish Weaver.
I’m including their prices per yard as of 8/30/2007 for your convenience. The figures in parentheses following it is, based on that price, what our price for a single standard four yard kilt would be followed by the per kilt price of bulk orders (two or more kilts of the same tartan.) Note this is before shipping (typically $9) and any customizations (such as leather straps, which are $12 each) and just to give you an idea, not an actual price quote.

Too many! You name it, they probably have it in this fabric. If you don’t mind paying an arm and a leg for spring weight wool, that is.
Also see: Lightweight Ancient, Lightweight Weathered, and Lightweight District (each the same price as Lightweight modern above)
Canadian Tartans–$38.95 ($210.80 single /$132.9 each in bulk)
Irish Tartans –Egads: you can get these in 13 oz wool—for $69.95 a yard. The low end price, for spring weight, is $45.95. Somehow, I don’t think that’s quite what they mean by, “the luck of the Irish.”
If you find a cheaper, quality source of fabric, feel free to tell us about them as well.
Please note we cannot guarantee the swatches pictured on third party websites will appear accurately in your web browser. I recommend Celtic Pride, Royal Stewart, Steward Hunting, Black Watch, or your family tartan. Otherwise, it’s a good idea to first order a fabric swatch from The Scottish Weaver (presently they charge $6 for swatches)
For an example of our tartan work, please see our gallery.
How does this work again?(Please read me before ordering, as well as About our Kilts to learn what “standard” features come included and which “nonstandard” features cost extra.)
